Director of ESPA and New Arts Programming, Primary Stages (2006 – 2016)
Now in its ninth year, the multidisciplinary classes at The Einhorn School of Performing Arts have refined the skills of emerging playwrights, actors, and directors in all stages of their development and from all corners of the globe. Our focus is on nurturing, honoring, and advocating for our emerging artists by providing them countless developmental opportunities, space to write and workshop, a company of ESPA actors and directors who have been seen on and off-Broadway, and a family of collaborators that extends far beyond the Primary Stages studios. Through building connections and a body of work at ESPA, our playwrights have received workshops and productions, won awards, and garnered professional attention among artistic leaders across the country. Having provided a home for nearly 3,000 artists, ESPA has become a trailblazer in performing arts education, new play development, and collaboration within the Primary Stages and greater New York theater community.

- Dramatic Structure - Covers the science of storytelling in plays, television, and films. The syllabus includes everything from Aristotle to Thurber, Tootsie to Groundhog Day, and “The West Wing” to “Orange is the New Black”. Students are given weekly lectures and assignments that cover the WHAT, HOW, and WHY of stories through examining the development of the hero, their physical manifestation in the story world and inciting incident, their actions and reversals, and their new equilibrium.
Faculty, The Einhorn School of Performing Arts (2007 – 2016)
- Playwriting - 10-week workshop to develop a first draft of a new play. Writers are expected to bring in 10-12 pages each week to read aloud and receive feedback (and learn how to do so). They are then pushed forward with writing exercises and lectures.
- Dramaturgy - 4-week course covering the plays being produced at Primary Stages. Participants read the plays in advance, discuss possible revisions, and brainstorm the steps to produce it, such as staffing, casting, marketing, and fundraising.
